The National Highway Transportation and Safety Administration estimates that 80 percent of all accidents are due to distracted drivers, looking away from the road to check a text (4.6 seconds), change the radio station (2 seconds) or search for a dropped cell phone (10+ seconds). All while their vehicles travel the length of a football field every 3.7 seconds.
You might already be aware that April is National Distracted Driving Awareness month and April 9 through 13 is National Work Zone Awareness Week.
What you might not be aware of is that the National Asphalt Pavement Association is launching a national public awareness campaign to help improve work zone safety and combat distracted driving.
As part of its new WatchForUs campaign, NAPA is asking us in the industry to join movement and help get the message out to the public to end distracted driving and unsafe behaviors in our work zones.
