G4 Technologies, Reno, Nevada, offers RTDensity, a brand-agnostic, real-time density monitoring technology for asphalt rollers. Every paving contractor knows the feeling: the nuclear gauge crew calls in a failing density reading after the mat has already cooled. Now you’re looking at milling and repaving—burning margin, blowing schedule and explaining yourself to the owner. RTDensity is designed to eliminate that scenario by putting density feedback where it belongs: in the cab, during the pass, while there’s still time to act.
RTDensity ships as a complete hardware-and-software package that installs on almost any vibratory steel drum roller. G4 provides and installs the following:
- accelerometer
- GPS receiver
- mat temperature sensor
- onboard computer
- in-cab operator display
Your existing fleet works as-is. Installation is completed by a G4 field technician, typically in a single day. Before each job, the operator triggers a short calibration pass. RTDensity learns the vibrational signature of that specific roller on that specific mix and adjusts its density model accordingly. From that point on, every compaction pass is scored against the job’s target density.
Once rolling, the operator sees a live density reading on the in-cab display, updated pass by pass, in real time. Because RTDensity tracks GPS position alongside every density reading, it builds a live spatial map of compaction coverage as the job progresses. Operators can see exactly which areas of the mat have hit target density and which still need passes. After the job, the same map becomes a post-job density profile: a GPS-referenced, color-coded coverage record ready for project documentation or owner review.
RTDensity holds an active U.S. patent on its core density-estimation technology, with granted patents in Australia, Canada, China and Japan.
