This month may not have a lot of action for your paving and production crews. Let’s face it, many areas of North America are snowed in, and managers are taking advantage of extended holiday vacations to relax or do some pre-season planning. Amid that planning, let’s look at the heart of these toolbox tips: setting up your next tailgate talk.
Your safety director may want to incorporate more elements of whole-body health for 2026. This includes psychological health, which Cal Beyer wrote about in our December issue, stating, “Frequently, psychological safety is closely associated with high-risk environments where trust and open communication is essential—from the executive suite to the crew on the ground. This fits the aggregates and HMA industries.”
Feel free to mine the Safety Spotlight department and the Suicide Prevention page’s library of articles at TheAsphaltPro.com to prepare safety meeting presentations and Monday morning safety talks. Also check out the full Toolbox Tips library for safety-related toolbox tips we’ve shared in the past. When you need a longer tip that is specific to suicide prevention, you may find what you need in the CIASP website’s archives.
Now when snow is blowing and managers are handling indoor projects, it’s an ideal time to set up meaningful tailgate talks and safety meetings for the upcoming season. If you need to forward this week’s tip to your safety director or HR personnel, please do so!
