It’s the time of year to organize the mechanic’s garage for easier over-winter maintenance projects. If you don’t already have one of those amazing pegboards nailed to the wall with tool outlines drawn on it, I highly recommend making that Step 1 of organization. By tracing tool outlines on the pegboard, you assign “home base” for each and every hand tool that doesn’t already have a drawer or bay where it resides. This reduces trip hazards and makes the work space more efficient.
QUICK TRAINING TIP: Make sure personnel know where spill-absorbing material is kept. You can mitigate simple, yet potentially tragic, slips and falls in the shop if you can train workers to clean up engine oil, over-greasing mistakes, and other spills immediately and properly.
