Asphalt Day Highlights Exemplary Workforce
BY By Sandy Lender
When you share asphalt industry news every day, every day is Asphalt Day! In anticipation of this year’s Asphalt Day on May 15, 2026, AsphaltPro Magazine reflects on the workers who make this resilient product worth celebrating.
Whether you pave new roadway systems or maintain existing parking lots, you’re the person who puts the industry’s product out there. Let’s look at a handful of the stories that have highlighted great workers executing exemplary projects over the years.
Some of the projects win state and national awards, putting asphalt workers front and center. Check out this Missouri award story for Delta Companies. There are many more under the search term “award” around the site.
Some of the projects are making waves with their demonstration of new technologies, which means the public might not understand how important they are until further down the road. Your average driver doesn’t know yet how vital the workers were to improving their lives and local economy. Check out this North Dakota high-tech compaction story from 2025 as merely one example.
Some of the stories we’ve shared over the years have clearly centered around people, rather than projects or pavement, and those are a great way to see Asphalt Day as a recruitment effort. Our people have skills we should boast about at every career fair to attract similar workers to the industry, such as the feature highlighting guidance from retiring plant manager Richard Warren. Check out the entire Women of Asphalt page, starting with the recent feature of the Estrada family at Primavera Grading & Paving.
Here at AsphaltPro, we hope you enjoy Asphalt Day every day and use its resources to not only share our industry’s great story, but also to encourage the existing workforce and attract new workers to our ranks!
