As indicated in the June “Plant Operators Benefit from New Controls in the Market,” producers and OEMs are invited to provide to The Asphalt Pro information on software or apps that are used to control the blending, loadout, burners, crushing or other aspects of production. The team from Ammann Group, Langenthal, Switzerland, has a proprietary digital solution that helps asphalt producers gain real-time insight into plant performance and production data. The Plant Information Point (PIP) module, which is an enhancement of Ammann’s as1 Control System, provides users with instant access to critical information anytime and from anywhere. PIP delivers continuously updated production figures, plant status, performance data and batch protocols.
One company using as1 PIP is Max Streicher GmbH & Co. KG, headquartered in Deggendorf, Germany. Streicher was founded as a road construction company in 1909. Today, it operates 11 asphalt-mixing plants across Bavaria, Saxony, Thuringia and the Czech Republic.

Hans Knogl, who began his career with the company more than 30 years ago, is now responsible for overseeing Streicher’s plant operations. He recently offered insight regarding the company’s adoption of as1 PIP. He explained that the company incorporated as1 PIP at the business as part of a control system retrofit at one plant, then purchased it for additional plants because of the data it allows them to access.
“We can view the status of the plant and any problems,” Knogl shared. “The fill levels and temperatures are displayed. Even the document archive is available.”
He listed the important features of the module. “That I can see the plant status—for example, whether the plant is producing without problems. Or whether there are any issues. It gives the lab a great advantage. They can view all production logs and therefore track what was produced—and how.”
With the as1 SMM module, all error messages can be received via email. Other highlights of the as1 PIP include:
- Mobile data solution
- Plant KPIs
- Operating data view
- Plant status info
- Daily trend data
