Control Paving Parts

The October issue features the topic of “control.” For that topic, our product gallery looks at the ACEforce proprietary compaction measurement system from Ammann Group.
While readers are familiar with Ammann’s offerings in the asphalt mix production sphere, they might not be as familiar with the pavers and compactors the company manufactures overseas. At CONEXPO-CON/AGG 2023, the company showcased a pair of electric plate compactors that salespersons said would be available in the North American market. Now let’s take a look at a larger compaction offering: the optional intelligent compaction control available for models such as the Ammann ARX 110 tandem roller.
On a recent bridge repair project on Road II/268 near Mnichovo Hradiště – Mimoň in the Czech Republic, the contractor USK Mladá Boleslav placed a new top layer of asphalt at a depth of 1.77 inches (4.5 cm), a length of 492 feet (150 meters) and a width of 29.5 feet (9 meters). The crew used the ARX 110 with ACEforce intelligent compaction system engaged. The system provides benefits including measurement and documentation, evaluation of material stiffness and operator guidance. The manufacturer stated this information proved crucial while compacting on the bridge. The machine worked in the lowest vibratory setting, which is an approach the operator would not have been confident of without ACEforce, according to the manufacturer.
