Caterpillar Inc. (NYSE: CAT) has introduced Cat AI Assistant, a new artificial intelligence tool designed to help customers interact with the company’s equipment and digital applications. The system is intended to support users in buying, maintaining, managing, and operating their machines, with the goal of improving productivity, efficiency, and safety across various worksites.
The AI tool consolidates Caterpillar’s portfolio of digital applications and internal data into a single conversational interface. It is built to operate across the company’s knowledge base, offering tailored insights and recommendations to assist with decision-making in the field and in the office.
“Caterpillar’s strong digital foundation, including our Helios data platform that manages over 16 petabytes of data, is helping us move fast and deploy new AI capabilities to help our customers succeed,” said Ogi Redzic, Caterpillar Chief Digital Officer. “Cat AI Assistant is a major leap forward in how Caterpillar supports customer success through best-in-class digital solutions, whether they’re working from corporate headquarters or at a remote jobsite.”
The company has outlined a range of intended uses for the tool. For fleet managers and business owners, the assistant offers operational insights and maintenance recommendations aimed at reducing downtime and supporting business growth. For technicians, it enables voice-activated access to technical manuals and repair instructions, including common issues and required parts. For machine operators, the system delivers in-cab support from machine startup through shift changes, offering real-time guidance without requiring screen changes or leaving the machine.
Cat AI Assistant uses the NVIDIA Jetson Thor platform to support speech recognition and edge computing. It is also designed to help address challenges related to workforce experience and jobsite complexity by offering guidance to less experienced operators and supporting dealer-customer interactions.
Caterpillar expects to roll out the off-board version of Cat AI Assistant in the first quarter of 2026. In-cab applications are currently in the final stages of validation. The company plans to showcase the system during its presentation at CES 2026.
