BY AsphaltPro Staff
The National Stone, Sand & Gravel Association (NSSGA) recognized several key contributors to the aggregates industry during its annual Legislative & Policy Forum. The association presented awards for legislative advocacy, environmental excellence, and community relations, highlighting outstanding efforts across various sectors of the industry.
ROCK Star Awards
Rep. Salud Carbajal (CA) and Rep. Nick Langworthy (NY) were honored with NSSGA’s prestigious ROCK Star Award for their advocacy on behalf of the aggregates industry. Both lawmakers have shown steadfast commitment to addressing the unique challenges facing the aggregates sector.
Rep. Carbajal, serving on multiple committees, was recognized for his leadership in securing infrastructure investments and supporting favorable industry policies. He also spearheaded the creation of the Congressional Aggregates Caucus.
Rep. Langworthy, in his first term, earned recognition for his leadership on aggregates issues in the Farm Bill and his role as the Republican lead of the same caucus.
Environmental Excellence and Leadership
NSSGA announced the recipients of its 2024 Environmental Excellence Awards, with 118 operations honored across all categories.
“NSSGA members take pride in responsible stewardship of the land, air and water,” said NSSGA President & CEO Michael Johnson. “Every winner deserves congratulations for their role in advancing the industry’s commitment to our environment.”

His award recognizes his decades-long work to keep the industry out of onerous and expensive Title V permits, as well as his more recent efforts using EPA data to demonstrate the wide-ranging impacts of a reduced P.M. 10 standard. His work for NSSGA members has saved the aggregates industry substantial resources and provided the technical context for many NSSGA policy positions.
Community Relations Excellence
The NSSGA also recognized leaders in community engagement with its 2024 Community Relations Excellence Awards, recognizing aggregates producers for their contributions to their communities and their work enhancing public perception of their individual operations and the entire industry.
“The Community Relations awards highlight the importance our industry places on being a good neighbor,” Johnson said. “Building and maintaining strong relationships with the community lays the foundation for our members’ success and growth. I’m honored to acknowledge the outstanding efforts of today’s winners.”
