Fort Myer Construction Begins Paving Pennsylvania Avenue NW Ahead of Presidential Inauguration
BY Fort Myer Construction
As Election Day gets closer, Fort Myer Construction crew members are working along Pennsylvania Avenue NW to ensure this historic corridor is ready for the upcoming presidential inauguration.
Since the 1980s, Fort Myer Construction has been among the paving contractors preparing the path for the Inauguration Parade. This work ensures the nation’s capital looks its best when the newly elected president of the United States of America makes their way from the U.S. Capitol to the White House.
Fort Myer Construction is completing this work with the District Department of Transportation (DDOT) on behalf of the National Highway System (NHS).
Fort Myer Construction crews first prep the corridor for safe work, then tear up the existing asphalt with its industry leading milling machines, and finally lay down 5,000 tons of new asphalt.
Since the 1980s, Fort Myer Construction has been among the paving contractors preparing the path for the Inauguration Parade.
All the asphalt used on this project is produced in the District of Columbia and much of the raw material is recycled from roadwork across the region.
The work will be completed between the hours of 7 p.m. and 5 a.m. so as not to disrupt the community. Weather permitting, the project will be completed by early November.
“We are proud to provide the best red carpet – in this case, black carpet – for the presidential inauguration in January,” proclaimed Mike Rounds, General Manager, Asphalt Division. “Our crew members have particular pride completing this work along one of the most iconic roads in the world.”
