House T&I Leadership Releases Bipartisan Highway Bill
BY AED
House Transportation & Infrastructure Committee Chairman Sam Graves (R-Mo.) and Ranking Member Rick Larson (D-Wash.) have unveiled their long-awaited, bipartisan surface transportation reauthorization bill, the BUILD America 250 Act.
The five-year proposal invests $580 billion in America’s roads, bridges, transit, rail transportation, and highway and motor carrier safety programs. The House Transportation & Infrastructure Committee is expected to hold a mark up to consider the BUILD America 250 Act later this week. Last March in Last Vegas, Chairman Graves and Ranking Member Larsen met with AED members and both committed to working together to provide the critical, long-term investments necessary to help fix the country’s crumbling infrastructure before the current surface transportation law expires on September 30.
“AED commends Chairman Graves and Ranking Member Larsen for drafting a bipartisan bill that calls for historic investments to rebuild America’s surface transportation infrastructure and provides long-term certainty to the construction sector,” said AED’s President & CEO Brian P. McGuire. “We urge lawmakers to continue to work in a bipartisan manner and send the BUILD America 250 Act to the president’s desk as soon as possible.”
AED will provide updates as the BUILD America 250 Act moves through the legislative process.
