American Highway Products’ Manhole Safety Ramp
BY AsphaltPro Staff

Many municipal mill and fill projects require milling around raised manholes, leaving behind a hazard that could lead to claims from drivers. To resolve the issue, contractors could use cold patch to create a temporary incline around the manhole. This requires labor, materials and traffic control measures for both installation and removal. The manhole safety ramp from American Highway Products, Bolivar, Ohio, offers a different solution. Here’s how it works.
First, select the correct size of safety ramp from the available internal diameters of 10 inches, 26 inches, 28 inches or 31 inches.
Next, drop the ramp in place over the raised manhole. Each 100 percent recycled rubber ramp weighs between 29 and 68 pounds, depending on the model. Adjust as needed so the ramp fits snuggly around the manhole.
Cars traveling over the ramp will then experience a gentle incline of 11 or 12 degrees, depending on the ramp size in use. The grip-tight design of the ramp will keep it in place as traffic passes.
When the paving crew arrives for the overlay portion of the project, remove the ramps to complete your paving project, and stack them for storage between uses.
