Editorial Guidelines
Do you have an article to submit to AsphaltPro Magazine? If you’ve already discussed your article idea with our editors, here are some basic guidelines to ensure your press release, technical article, case study or project story will fit into an upcoming edition of The AsphaltPro Magazine easily. If you have an idea you’ve not discussed with us, please reach out to sandy@theasphaltpro.com.
Editorial deadlines are about two months prior to the print publication. (For example, the May issue’s deadline is March 3.) If you anticipate you’ll miss the deadline, contact the editor ASAP to coordinate a possible future insertion.
- We prefer submissions do not have company logos/agency logos embedded in the document. Your contact information should be in the cover letter/accompanying email.
- Do not include headers/footers/page numbers in the document.
- 1-inch margins are fine.
- Left justification is fine.
- Either double or single line-spacing is fine.
- Use only one space after punctuation.
- We prefer articles to be typed with Times New Roman in a Word document, but that’s not a deal-breaker.
- Do not embed images, charts or graphs in your document. Reference them, where necessary, and include them as attachments in your email.
- Include the name of the article’s author in the byline beneath a suggested headline.
- Include a short, 25- to 30-word bio for the author at the end of the article. Include the author’s headshot as an attachment to your email. AsphaltPro Magazine does not accept AI-generated content. If a human couldn’t be bothered to write it, we wouldn’t expect our human audience to be bothered to read it.
Our typical word counts are as follows:
- Departments, 800 to 1,200 words plus 5 or 6 images
- Project stories, 1,200 to 1,500 words plus multiple images
- Producer profiles or contractor features, 1,500 to 2,000 words plus multiple images
- Technical/how-to features, 1,200 to 1,500 words plus multiple images/graphs
All images should be submitted in high-resolution, jpeg format. We can receive those via email, Dropbox, WeTransfer, etc.
A few notes about submitting press releases:
Press/product/news releases must include a dateline, town and state, complete spelling of product name, company name, source’s name, etc.
- AsphaltPro is happy to accept releases from non-advertising partners if the information is relevant to the asphalt industry.
- If the release is from an advertising partner, please include a high-resolution jpeg showing the product or person featured in the release and a URL to which we can direct the audience.
- We include news/product releases in the product gallery in every issue of the magazine. Those are also included on the website after print publication. Paving/pavement maintenance-related products and services are featured in January, March/April, June, August, October; Plants/production-related products and services are featured in February, May, July, September, November; Lab/QC/QA-related products and services are featured in December.
