MODULE 1: BUILD A
SUCCESSFUL CREW
Want your crew to work as a cohesive unit? Make sure each member has a solid understanding of his or her job responsibilities, AND each colleagues' role. This module covers job descriptions for each crew role. Train the new kid, or cross-train your whole crew.
No one wants to feel the loss and the guilt of seeing a co-workers vehicle left in the parking lot because he's not going home. New crew members make mistakes because they lack experience, but even experienced crew members can fall prey to safety slips. This module covers safety best practices to keep every crew member safe and sound at day's end.
Keeping your equipment in its best condition with routine and regular maintenance can save you from hours of downtime and expensive, project-halting repairs. This module reviews how to keep your distributor truck, haul truck, paver and roller in optimum working condition.
Even warm-mix asphalt reaches the screed at temperatures in excess of 200 degrees Fahrenheit. Heating up your equipment components will give your compaction team the best chance at achieving bonus-worthy densities. This module gives you an in-depth look at the best practices to uniformly create heat at the paving project.
MODULE 5: READY THE PAVER
The screed and endgates are heating up and the paver is in the correct position. Before you charge the hopper, there are a number of steps to get the paver ready for paving.
When getting ready to start the first pass of a project, the paver needs a strong and secure starting point. Learn how to build the table—or the takeoff ramp—that the screed will rest on for takeoff.
MODULE 7: DUMP THE TRUCK & FILL THE CHAMBER
Getting mix from the bed of the haul truck to a smooth mat behind the paver takes safe attention to detail. The truck carries anywhere from 13 to 28 tons of mix. That material will only be good for a certain period of time- in other words, it's perishable material. Train the haul truck driver and the paving crew to get the material behind the paver in an efficient, safe manner to achieve a top quality mat.
MODULE 8: DETERMINE
FLUFF FACTOR & YIELD
When placing the mat, you have to accommodate the amount of mix to be compacted during rolling. In this final training module, you'll learn what information you'll need and a formula you can use to accurately determine fluff factor and yield for any job.
